Santander Universities

Santander has been a valuable partner of Newcastle University since 2009.

Newcastle University has collaborated with Santander Universities for over a decade. The collaboration helps offer students opportunities to succeed, regardless of circumstance. Together, through financial and in-kind support, we help students further their career prospects through:

  • paid internships or overseas travel
  • empower them to make their business ideas a reality
  • support their learning with scholarships and bursaries

Enterprise

Through Start Up, we offer grants to help businesses our students and graduates have set up to thrive.

Education

Santander Universities fund scholarships through our International Mobility offer. This funding helps students gain valuable overseas experience as part of their Newcastle education.

Employability

Our Career Insights supports underrepresented students to gain relevant work experience, explore a range of opportunities and build strong networks with employers through a year-long programme.

Santander Universities also provides valuable support for our Newcastle University Students’ Union and internships and work experience.

Women in STEM

In 2019, Santander Universities also launched their STEMship Programme. This pioneering programme encourages more women into STEM subjects. The programme aims to help address the lack of diversity within the UK engineering industry.

Aspiring engineer Georgie Woolf (BSc Mechanical Engineering) is taking part in the programme. Georgie is one of 30 students from partner universities taking part in the two-year programme. The programme offers:

  • a 10-week paid internship,
  • an international trip
  • a year in industry.

The programme was launched in July 2019 at Silverstone with Jensen Button. Read our interview with Georgina and her experience of the programme so far!
