Santander Universities

Santander has been a valuable partner of Newcastle University since 2009.

We have collaborated with Santander Universities for over 15 years. This collaboration helps offer students opportunities to succeed, regardless of circumstance.

Their aim is to:

  • Help people by giving them access to skills for jobs
  • Help businesses prosper by building skills and providing support that fosters innovation and creates jobs
  • Contribute to social mobility and their wider Responsible Banking Strategy

They deliver this through the three pillars of Education, Employability and Entrepreneurship.

Our latest agreement with Santander Universities focuses on the following areas:

  • Education
  • Employability
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Brighter Future Grants

Education

In 2022/23 Santander Universities launched a new Santander Scholar’s Programme with one scholarship being awarded to each of their partner universities starting in that academic year. These students are being supported for three years with a financial scholarship and wrap-around support, development and activity programme.

Employability

Santander help to fund 15 summer internships through the Careers Service. These internships provide an opportunity to gain graduate level work experience in companies of all sizes as well as within the University.

Enterprise

Through Start Up, we offer grants to help businesses our students and graduates have set up to thrive.

Brighter Future Grants

All undergraduate and postgraduate students are eligible to enter a draw to win one of 10 awards of £1,000 given to us by Santander Universities. Applications are made via the Santander Open Academy Platform during a set period each year (usually at the start of Semester 1) and recipients are chosen at random.
