This lecture focussed on the impact of chemistry on society with emphasis on molecules that changed the world. Starting with Ancient Greek theories on matter, through the alchemy of the Middle Ages and the dawn of modern chemistry to the advent of organic chemistry, the lecture will include the stories of Aspirin, penicillin, and Taxol and will end with some thoughts on education and current trends in drug discovery and development.
