There are alternatives! Democratic education and the common school
Michael Fielding and Peter Moss, Institute of Education, University of London
Date/Time: 25th October 2012
In this lecture Michael Fielding and Peter Moss argued that the direction of education since the 1980s has been disastrous: obsessed by marketisation and privatisation, driven by narrow measures of success, and with a preference for central government control rather than democratic accountability. They contest the current educational reforms and propose a public education from birth to 18 years, in which democracy is a fundamental value and practice, and human flourishing the goal.
